A healthy soil and improved crop yield—that’s every grower’s goal. With a reliable fertiliser of consistent, high quality, you can make the difference.
At Den Ouden GrowSolutions, we choose a controlled production process. The result? A pellet of consistent quality. In this three-part series, we take you through the processing of the FertiSoil 4-3-3 pellet. In this final part we show how our fertiliser, with an organic matter content of no less than 65%, distinguishes itself in terms of soil and plant health.
The importance of organic matter in soil
Organic matter, also known as humus, plays a vital role in soil health. It promotes the formation of soil aggregates, which improve air and water balance. This allows roots to develop optimally and reduces soil erosion.
Additionally, organic matter serves as a nutrient source for microorganisms, which contribute to the breakdown of organic material and the availability of essential nutrients. It also enhances soil aeration. The biological and chemical processes surrounding organic matter increase the cation exchange capacity (CEC), making key nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium more readily available to plants.
Trace elements: An essential addition
In addition to primary nutrients, FertiSoil 4-3-3 contains an important amount of trace elements, such as zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), and iron (Fe). These micronutrients play a crucial role in various physiological processes in plants:
- Zinc supports the synthesis of growth hormones and proteins, which are essential for healthy growth and development.
- Copper plays a role in photosynthesis and respiration and contributes to lignin formation, improving plant tissue strength.
- Iron is necessary for chlorophyll production, which drives photosynthesis. An iron deficiency can lead to leaf chlorosis, causing leaves to turn yellow due to reduced chlorophyll production.
By providing a balanced ratio of trace elements, FertiSoil 4-3-3 promotes healthy plant growth and enhances resistance to stress factors such as drought and diseases.
Optimal absorption, even in dry conditions
An effective fertiliser must not only be rich in nutrients and organic matter but also be functional. FertiSoil 4-3-3 is specifically formulated so that its granules break down within minutes upon contact with moisture, making nutrients and organic matter quickly available to the soil, microorganisms, and crops. This is illustrated in the images beside this text (left: no contact with water, right: after 7.5 minutes in contact with water).
This characteristic makes FertiSoil 4-3-3 particularly suitable for use in regions with limited rainfall or irrigation options. Even in dry conditions, plants can still benefit from the readily available nutrients in FertiSoil 4-3-3.
The role of fulvic and humic acids
In addition to organic matter and trace elements, FertiSoil 4-3-3 contains fulvic and humic acids, which play a significant role in both soil and plant health:
- Fulvic acids act as natural chelators, enhancing the uptake and transport of minerals and trace elements within plants. They also stimulate the activity of soil bacteria, leading to improved soil structure and increased nutrient availability.
- Humic acids improve soil water retention and structure. They increase the cation exchange capacity (CEC), allowing nutrients to be better retained and gradually made available to plants. Furthermore, humic acids provide a carbon source for microorganisms, promoting microbial activity and soil fertility.
Solution for improved soil health
With a high organic matter content of up to 65%, essential trace elements, and the benefits of fulvic and humic acids, FertiSoil 4-3-3 offers a well-thought-out solution for improving soil health and crop yield.
