Purpose
This trial examined the effect of Rootfit on the underwater weight and yield of potato. The base of Rootfit consists of pure spores of two endomycorrhiza species. These mycorrhiza species are essential in arable farming. The mycorrhizae form very fine fungal threads where the absorption capacity of the plant is increased by an average of 700%. Rootfit is also supplemented with various rhizobacteria that make minerals available to the plants. Its granular form makes this product easy to disperse and efficient and economical to apply at the seed.
Results
Object Rootfit was compared to untreated. For each object 4 repetitions were used. At harvest 2 rows were harvested at 3 different spots each object. The sizes of the rows was 6x1,33m. Treatments were carried out in the full ground.
Results
Higher yield and underwater weight
The average yield of potatoes treated with Rootfit was 7% higher than untreated potatoes. Also, the underwater weight when treated with Rootfit was lower than in the untreated potatoes. The underwater weight is a representation of the starch and dry matter content of the potato. This determines whether a potato cooks firmly or crumbly. An ideal underwater weight is between 300 and 350 grams.
